The Kentucky Derby is the first leg of Triple Crown of racing, and is widely considered the most prestigious horse race in the world. The race features three year-old thoroughbred horses, and is held annually at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY on the first Saturday in May. With a length of 1 ¼ miles, the race is sometimes called the "Most Exciting 2 Minutes in Sports", because of the average time needed to finish. It’s also called the "Run for the Roses", referencing the blanket of roses draped over the winner. Including the infield section, the Derby is the most attended race in North America. The infield is a general admission area inside the track that offers limited views of the race, but a great opportunity to party nonetheless.
