Oxygen Tanks on Charter Flights

People with respiratory problems that require the use of oxygen often fear that their condition prevents them from traveling. While this can indeed be problematic for those travelling on commercial flights, it is possible for passengers to take an oxygen tank on a plane (as well as other respiratory assistive devices) when you choose a private jet charter.

There are regulatory requirements that apply to the use of a supplemental oxygen tank on a plane. For example, both the charter plane and crew need to be certified to bring supplemental oxygen tanks or oxygen-generating canisters onboard.

When you contact Stratos Jet Charters to book a private jet, please inform your charter agent of your needs so that they can select an air carrier who meets these requirements. Our agents will also work with you to ensure that your oxygen supply is approved by the FAA for flight. If it doesn’t we can arrange for one that does.

Travel Considerations for Passengers Who Require Oxygen

The first question travelers should ask themself is: “Am I fit to fly?” It’s important to keep in mind that any respiratory condition at ground level could be magnified in the air. This is because air pressure levels aboard a plane travelling at 40,000 feet will be lower than at ground level.

To alleviate any concerns, we recommend that you consult your physician to ensure you’re fit to fly. Also, it’s a good idea to consider the destination to which you plan to travel, as certain climatic and geographical conditions can adversely affect those with respiratory challenges. This includes areas with:

  • High elevation
  • Extreme temperatures
  • High humidity

For passengers who are also considered non-ambulatory, or have limited mobility, we can still accommodate your travel needs. At Stratos Jet Charters, we tailor our private jet travel services to your specific needs, planning your itinerary down to the finest details.
