PGA and LPGA Tours

There are nearly 50 PGA Tour events on the calendar and about 30 more on the LPGA circuit. While each event features world-class talent, some hold more prestige than others. The Players Championship

Sometimes referred to as the ‘Fifth Major,’ the Players Championship is often overshadowed by the official Majors (The Masters, U.S. and British Opens, PGA Championship). However, the Players has something they don’t: The biggest purse on the PGA Tour. It’s expected to be in the neighbourhood of US$25 million.

Arnold Palmer Invitational

Formerly known as the Bay Hill Invitational, this tourney is one of five PGA Tour events to allow entries on an invite-only basis. The field is also reduced to just 120, making it a rather exclusive event. And, of course, there’s Arnold Palmer, one of the all-time legends in the sport. He’s the central figurehead for this Tour stop in Bay Hill, Florida and he’s one of the major reasons it fields one of the strongest groups of competitors outside of the four majors. Incidentally, Palmer is a huge flying enthusiast and has been known to take private jets to PGA events all over the world.

Farmers Insurance Open

Played the last week of January, the Farmers Insurance Open is akin to Groundhog Day for top-flight professional golfers. There are three other Tour stops before in the calendar year, however, this is the one where the world’s best come out to play. It doesn’t hurt that it’s hosted at the beautiful Torrey Pines Golf Course, just north of San Diego.

Location: Torrey Pines, La Jolla, California For the LPGA Tour, the stops with the biggest purses happen to be five Grand Slam events:

• ANA Inspiration
• KPMG Women’s PGA Championship
• Ricoh Women’s British Open
• The Evian Championship
