Lear 40XR Charter Jet Information

The Lear 40XR charter jet is widely regarded as one of the best aircraft available in the light jet market segment. And for good reason. Produced by Learjet, a subsidiary of Canadian-based Bombardier Aerospace Company, this luxury jet receives top marks for performance and comfort. It is considered by many to be one of the best light business jets around because it is faster off of the ground and boasts the most cabin space in its class. In production since 2006, the Lear 40XR is powered by two Honeywell TRE731-20-BR engines. These power plants deliver 3,500 pounds of thrust each, making it even faster than its speedy predecessor, the Lear 31. Rather than completely redesign the 40XR, the engineering team at Learjet followed a more pragmatic approach. They took the already-successful Lear 45 (an eight-seater), and shortened the fuselage. The result is a six-seat private jet capable of reaching cruise speeds in excess of 530 mph. That’s because the 45 and 40XR share the same engine, yet the former is obviously lighter.

High-end Performance

The upgraded engines also give the 40XR an advantage in other areas, such as hot-and-high performance. It can also operate comfortably out of airports with 5,000-foot runways, even while fully loaded. Landings on the Lear 40XR are soft and comfortable thanks to a combination of its:

  • Electronic braking system
  • Trailing link main landing gear
  • Thrust reversers

As a result, it requires less than 2,700 feet to stop. As you’d expect, the 40XR is also a tremendous climber. It takes just 15 minutes for it to climb to an altitude of 37,000 feet, and 23 minutes to reach 43,000 feet. It’s maximum service ceiling is 51,000 feet. This allows pilots to:

  • Quickly rise above inclement weather
  • Provide passengers with a smooth ride
  • Fly well above commercial air traffic

While the Honeywell turbofans deliver plenty of power, they’re also quite economical. They allow the Lear 40XR charter jet to travel more than 1,800 nautical miles without refueling. A range like that allows for nonstop flights from places like:

  • Chicago to San Francisco
  • Singapore to Hong Kong

Exceptional Cabin Comfort

The Lear 40XR is typically configured for six passengers, but it can accommodate another passenger on a lavatory seat and still offer plenty of workspace. The standard seating arrangement is a double-club-plus-two. For added convenience, the seats are fully maneuverable to allow tracking, swiveling and sliding. There are also fold-down worktables that allow business passengers to remain productive while flying. For an aircraft of its size, the cabin of the Lear 40XR jet charter is about as spacious as it gets. In total, the cabin volume measures 363 cubic feet, with the following dimensions:

  • 17.7 feet long
  • 5.1 feet wide
  • 4.9 feet tall

Additionally, there is a total of 65 cubic feet of luggage space, 15 of which resides in an internal compartment that you can access while inflight. The remaining 50 is an external compartment. The plane’s interior also features a forward closet and a refreshment center. Due to its intuitive four-screen interface, the Honeywell Primus 1000 avionics suite is simple for pilots to work with. As a result, flight management is easier, and safer.
