There are NASCAR races, and then there’s the Daytona 500. Dubbed the ‘Super Bowl of stock car racing,’ this high-octane event draws an estimated 140,000 race fans from all over the world every February. For those who prefer to travel in style, private planes are a great way to get from the runway to the popular Florida speedway. The 62nd Daytona 500, which goes February 16, 2020, is a chance for race fans to visit the newest speedway on the NASCAR circuit. Unveiled in 2017, the $400 million overhaul of Daytona International Speedway was designed to improve the spectator experience. With an $18 million purse, which is by far the largest in the Monster Engergy NASCAR Cup race series, it’s easy to see why the Daytona 500 hold so much appeal for both fans and racers. With more than 40 drivers attaining top speeds approaching 200mph over 200 laps, the action is fast and fierce. But perhaps the thing that makes this race so unique is it’s the first event on the NASCAR calendar. Pretty much every other major sporting event holds its marquee event at the end of the season.
Getting There
In terms of private planes, you’re not going to find a closer landing strip to Daytona International Speedway than Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB). The two are located next to one another, just 2.5 miles apart. You’ll likely get a spectacular overhead view of the 2.5-mile tri-oval track as you descend towards the tarmac. Overview: The Daytona 500 is a 500-mile, 200-lap NASCAR event held every February at Daytona Beach International Speedway. Despite being the season-opening race of the Sprint Cup series, it’s widely considered the most important race of the season. While the driver points awarded at Daytona are the same as any other series stop, the overall prize purse far exceeds the others. 2020 will represent the 62nd time the race has run.
