Website: https://www.tcsnycmarathon.org/
Venue: TCS New York City Marathon
Address: New York, New York

The first New York City Marathon was held in 1970 in Central Park, NY.

127 runners registered, only one of which was female, and only 55 entrants crossed the finish line. The registration fee was $1 and participants were given used baseball and bowling trophies for their efforts.

A few years later, the marathon expanded and took to the streets of NYC. This newly updated race crossed five bridges and five boroughs.

Since its inception, the marathon has always represented community spirit and strength; however, the 2001 race evolved into a symbol for hope too. Only a few short months after the September 11 terrorists’ attacks, runners and spectators eager to move beyond the tragedy, viewed the marathon with a sense of renewed hope and pride.

Last years’ race had more than 52,000 finishers, making it the largest marathon in the history of the event. With this year’s event coming up, plans to accommodate even more participants are underway.
