Aspen jet charter information

Originally established as a silver mining community, the Rocky Mountain Colorado town of Aspen garnered its name from the abundance of aspen trees in the city. Once the mines were closed towards the end of the 19th century, Aspen’s population dwindled. After the Second World War, industrialist Walter Paepcke and his wife Elizabeth founded the Aspen Skiing Corporation in 1946. By 1950, Aspen hosted the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, making the city a major ski destination. The resort town now boasts the most expensive real estate prices in the US and attracts many wealthy visitors, seasonal dwellers and celebrities. Three major organizations in Aspen include the Aspen Music Festival and School: a classical music festival and training event for young musicians; the Aspen Institute: a non-profit organization established for study of the Humanities; and the Aspen Center for Physics.

Things to Do in Aspen

Aspen has so much more to offer than just ski slopes. It has something to offer during every season. Once you’ve disembarked your plane, check out one of the town’s nearby nature reserves or parks. Independence Pass offers a scenic drive with lookouts along the way. The Maroon Bells Mountains exhibit the most spectacular fall colors you’ll ever see, while the Maroon Lake Scenic Trail is the ultimate hiker’s paradise where you can:

  • Absorb the gorgeous landscape
  • Take in the fresh mountain air
  • Observe gentle wildlife like deer and rabbits

When you are ready to hit the slopes, Aspen Mountain/Ajax is nicknamed “The Athlete’s Mountain” for its challenging runs. If you’re a newbie or just want to brush up on your skills, try Buttermilk Mountain. Snowmass is also near Aspen, a short 25-minute drive or shuttle ride away. Known for its high-end restaurants and boutiques, visitors to Aspen can experience some culture and local history at the Wheeler Opera House, built in 1889, or visit the Wheeler-Stallard House, a 19th century museum. For contemporary artworks, visit the Aspen Art Museum.
