Atlanta is the capital and most populous city in the state of Georgia, as well as the urban core of one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the U.S.
Long considered to be a top business city and transportation hub, Atlanta is the world headquarters of The Coca-Cola Company, AT&T Mobility and Delta Air Lines. In the sporting world, Atlanta is another of the rare cities which can boast teams from all four major league sports in the U.S. The Atlanta Braves of Major League Baseball and the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL have played in the city since 1966. The Braves began playing in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings, and is the oldest continually operating professional sports franchise in America. The Braves won the World Series in 1995, and had an unprecedented run of 14 straight divisional championships from 1991 to 2005.
The Atlanta Hawks of the National Basketball Association have played in Atlanta since 1968, and rounding out the Big Four are the Atlanta Thrashers, of the National Hockey League. The city also is home to a Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) team, the Atlanta Dream, as well as various other professional, minor league and collegiate teams.
