Belgrade Jet Charter Information
The Serbian capital of Belgrade is the cultural and economic center of the country, as well as one of the largest and most historically significant cities in Europe. One of the largest prehistoric cultures, known as the Vinca, lived in the area around Belgrade. Since then the city has changed hands in conflict after conflict, from the Ottomans and Hapsburgs to the Soviet Union. In all, the city of Belgrade has been in more than 115 wars and burned to the ground 44 times. Luckily, modern Belgrade is much more settled and peaceful these days. Though its economy suffered under international embargoes stemming from the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s and 2000s, Belgrade remained and is the financial hub of the Serbian economy. Belgrade is home to the National Bank and the Belgrade Stock Exchange. In addition, many corporations choose to base their Eastern European headquarters in Belgrade, including:
- Microsoft
- Motorola
- Dell
Things to Do in Belgrade
Every year, tourists flock to the city's historic districts to take in Belgrade's rich, ancient history. The National Museum encompasses a fantastic collection of 400,000 exhibits, including 5,600 paintings from a vast selection of the world's masters. While there is so much to experience at the museum, make sure you don't miss out on seeing the Miroslav Gospel. This 362-page manuscript created in 1186 is considered to be Serbia's single most culturally significant artifact as it is one of the oldest surviving manuscripts written in Old Church Slavonic. Also be sure to check out Serbia's own White House, known as Beli Dvor (the White Palace), home of the Karadordevic royal family. When night falls in Belgrade, the city is only starting to wake up. Many clubs and bars are open till dawn. Locals and visitors from outlying districts prefer Belgrade's nightlife because of its friendlier atmosphere, cheaper drinks and few language barriers. Whether you're into the alternative clubs of the college district or the more culturally traditional venues found in the urban areas, don't miss out on what The Times calls the best club experience in Europe. On your way back to your hotel room, make a point of passing by the Temple of Saint Sava and witness the inspiring view of the fountains illuminated before the imposing dome. Located in the city center, Knez Mihailova is a pedestrian-only district that’s great for taking a stroll, grabbing a bite to eat and shopping. Other worthwhile attractions around Belgrade include:
- Belgrade Fortress
- Kalemegdan Park
- National Assembly
