Bend is an outdoor lover’s paradise, surrounded by mountains, rivers, and beautiful trails. The city offers a laid-back vibe with great craft breweries and stunning natural scenery.
One of the best things about Bend, besides its proximity to all-things nature, is the fact that the city enjoys nearly 300 days of a sunshine a year. Bend is also home to more than 300 miles of mountain-biking trails, 3,600 acres of skiing terrain and 71 parks. And if all of that isn’t enough for you, there’s also 18 breweries, four wineries, and three cideries.
Dust off that mountain bike! When you charter flights to Bend, be sure to bring your bike with you. With more than 300 miles of bike trails, you can ride terrain that can be as easy or as challenging as you’d like. If you don’t want (or have) your own mountain bike, rent one. Pine Mountain Sports can get you set up and ready to ride all day long.
Don’t forget to pack your hiking shoes. After you settle in at your hotel, head out to the Lava Lands Visitor Centre. Here you’ll find the Trail of the Whispering Pines. You’ll be treated to some pretty amazing mountain and volcano views. You can even see the cinder cone of Lava Butte where NASA carried out it’s astronaut training program before the famed moon landing.
Hop in a kayak or canoe and explore the city via the Deschutes river. You can also rent a paddle board or head out on a rafting trip. The river is a great way to explore the area while staying cool during the warmer summer months.
After a successful day of exploring the great outdoors, head back to town and hit the Bend Ale Trail, the largest ale trail of its kind in the West. Download the app and start making your way through Bend’s 18 breweries.
Some other notable Bend activities include:
High Desert Museum – set on 135 wooded acres, you’ll be able to see raptors, otters, and reptiles up close while discovering the history of Bend.
Explore downtown Bend – pick up souvenirs or find a pair of Birkenstocks to live like the locals.
Play a round (or two!) at Sunriver Resort golf course. This award-winning golf course is a must play.
