Eureka! It’s what the gold seekers said when they found gold there. It took nearly 300 years for Europeans to find Humboldt Bay since the entrance by water was narrow and the weather often concealed it. An overland exploration in 1849 revealed the location, just in time for the Gold Rush. Charter flights to Eureka (different from another California town which sounds similar but is spelled, Yreka), located on the shores of Humboldt Bay in Humboldt County, and take advantage of one of California’s major commercial fishing ports. With a population of roughly 27,000, it is the largest coastal city between Portland, Oregon and San Francisco. As Europeans settled in the area, the lumber industry was the main trade, with the supplying of, importing of and exporting of lumber. During this time, Victorian architecture was the chosen style for many homes and storefronts and today the city is nationally recognized for its preservation of its Old Town Historic District. Come prepared for coastal weather by packing clothing that can be layered. Eureka temperatures don’t vary too greatly throughout the year. Its hottest month is August with an average of 66 degrees Fahrenheit, making the city one of the coolest places in California. Winter averages dip down as low as 41 degrees.

My representative Simon did a really good job explaining my options and arranging our charter. Disappointed our charter Was 30 minutes late due to routine maintenance. Since it was routine, obviously it should have been scheduled to not interfere with our flight schedule. One of the big reason for the charter was to avoid sitting around a lounge in the Covid era. Due to the delay, that’s exactly what we did. Small issues, but water wasn’t working in lavatory, cabin temperature was a bit erratic, and air vent dripped water. Crew was courteous and flight was fine.

Glenn and his team at Stratos were amazing. Unfortunately, the operator provided last minute communication of a delay that caused problems on the arriving end of the flight. The operator was aware of the delay the night before and failed to inform Glenn (and in turn, me). The drive from the San Jose, CR airport to my final destination was incredibly dangerous due to my having to drive at night. The stress of travel was significant to begin with. The poor communication and the delay into the final destination caused another whole level of stress which is understood when you travel commercially, but not when you spend $17K on a private jet charter.

In fact because of her enthusiasm and helpfulness, I chose Stratos over a another company that gave me a slightly lower quote. She answered all my questions and did her best to meet all my requests. The flight was excellent, plane was comfortable and the pilots were very helpful and professional. There was a bit of miscommunication about the hours of customs at my home airport .. and lead to a bit of confusion about the return departure time. Ice for beverages had melted on the first leg, and not all the drinks were stocked according to what was promised. My requests were fulfilled however for the return flight. I'm a coffee drinker, coffee was well stocked, but very little cream available, kinda curdled!!. These are tiny details but better supply of online refreshments would have made the flight perfect!! Beautiful views, no delays, smooth landings, and comfortable seats and lav. Beautiful shiny, clean plane. . the CJ3. Had a great time!
