Hyannis is best known as the summer vacation home of the Kennedy clan, who maintained a compound in nearby Hyannis Port. The estate is situated on six acres and contains three stately homes, which are now maintained by the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. It’s possible to view these homes by taking a cruise aboard the Prudence, an old Maine Coastal Steamer that now operates as a sightseeing vessel. The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum is also worth a visit, as it contains a collection of photographs and videos highlighting his time in Cape Cod. If you want to do a little shopping in Hyannis, there are two main areas that will be of interest: the historic downtown Main Street and Route 132 Commercial District. The latter contains an array of shopping venues, including:

  • Independence Plaza
  • Festival at Hyannis S.C.
Main Street, on the other hand, operates at a slower pace. Visitors here can jump on the Cape Cod Trolley and take a tour of the town where you’ll find old-world charm in the form of:

The town is also home to Cape Cod Potato Chips, a local favorite. This small company is one of the area’s top tourist attractions, drawing more than 250,000 visitors annually! Another reason to add Hyannis to your travel list is the beaches. There are several in the area to choose from, including:
