Lake Havasu is an artificial lake. This large reservoir was formed after a dam was built on the Colorado River on the border between California and Arizona. The dam, built between 1934 and 1968 is referred to as Parker Dam. The resulting lake was named after the Mojave word for blue due to its startling hue. Lake Havasu City was originally established in 1963 after four years of planning.
