General Information
A city of nearly half a million people, Long Beach is just south of downtown Los Angeles, California.
Long Beach has a rich and varied history of development. After the Indigenous people were forced to relocate due to a severe drop in population from exposure to European illnesses in the mid 1800s, the area experienced cattle ranching and sheep farming before it became a producer of oil. The city continued to see industrial success with the opening of the Ford Motor Company assembly line. Douglas Aircraft Company built several aircrafts, and it also became a popular port town providing employment in the fishing industry.
