There are a varied amount of things to do in Ottawa, from experiencing the city’s many cultural attractions to enjoying a variety of outdoor activities. One of the most popular places to visit is Ottawa’s Parliament Hill, where you can watch the daily Changing of the Guard.
The large-scale production includes a regimental band and pipers and the Ceremonial Guard, made up of members from Canada’s Armed Forces, Navy and Air Force, dressed in traditional uniforms. Home to tons of museums, galleries and other cultural facilities, make sure to pay a visit to:
- The National Gallery of Canada
- Canadian Museum of Civilization
- Canadian War Museum
- National Arts Centre
- Canada Science and Technology Museum
For shopping and restaurants, head to the 150-store CF Rideau Centre or check out the boutiques and craft shops of the ByWard Market, the Downtown Rideau district, and Sparks Street, which is Canada’s first and oldest pedestrian shopping mall.
Those visiting around Victoria Day, held on the third weekend of May, can take in the Canadian Tulip Festival, which features millions of tulips in bloom. The tulips came from the Netherlands to thank Canada’s contribution to the liberation of the Dutch nation during the Second World War.
Popular outdoor pastimes in Ottawa include skating along the Rideau Canal or at Parliament Hill in winter, biking the city’s many family-friendly and scenic trails, white water rafting on the Ottawa River, fishing in the area’s many well-stocked lakes and rivers, as well as skiing and golf.
Glenn made booking effortless, pilots made it a great flight and yes, I would recomend to a friend.
