Pontiac Jet Charter Information
Once a major hub of the early General Motors empire, Pontiac, Michigan remains an important destination for those traveling on business to the Detroit Metropolitan area. The county seat for Oakland County, the city is named after Chief Pontiac of the Ottawa Indian tribe, who led his people into battle with the British to fight against the French for control of what is now parts of Canada and the north and mid-eastern US. Although it has experienced economic turbulence over the past two decades due to the downturn in the automotive industry, Pontiac is now moving forward towards economic diversification. Companies such as Williams International and United Shore Financial Services have recently moved their headquarters into the city, while millions of dollars have been invested to renovate and refurbish the city’s historic buildings downtown.
Things to Do in Pontiac
One example of Pontiac’s recent revitalization is the renovation of the 900-seat Flagstar Strand Theater for the Performing Arts. Built in 1921 as a vaudeville theater, it housed a cinema and a repertoire theater company. The newly refurbished location is billed as Pontiac’s premier destination for live entertainment, education and the performing arts and includes a barbecue restaurant and adjoining bar. Another revitalized entertainment complex is the Crofoot, which consists of a number of venues located in a preserved 1920s’ Art Deco building. This includes a nightclub for dancing, a live music concert hall, a party room with a bar, and a café. The Pontiac Creative Arts Center is located in the old city library and features ongoing exhibitions, workshops and classes. For some summer fun, check out the Phoenix Plaza Amphitheatre, which plays host to a number of open-air festivals and performing acts throughout the season. For some spooky festivities at Halloween, head to Erebus, a four-story haunted house attraction located in what was once an abandoned parking lot building. Pontiac is also home to eight major parks and 22 neighborhood parks. Both Galloway Lake and Hawthorne Park offer recreational facilities, picnic areas as well as boat launches and fishing. Pontiac Lake, located seven miles west of the city center, is one of the largest man-man lakes in the US. The 3,745-acre Pontiac Lake Recreation Area has designated trails for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking.
