General information
A beautiful and relaxing city, Santa Clara is also a major destination and workplace for those in the high-tech industry. The latter features the Historic Mission Santa Clara de Asis Catholic church, which was founded by the Franciscan Order in 1777 and later handed to the Jesuits who started Santa Clara College in 1851, making it the first institution of higher education in California. Known for its sustainable practices, the City of Santa Clara operates its own electricity utility, Silicon Valley Power, which has a power mix consisting of 24.2% from eligible renewal resources, according to the California Energy Commission. Santa Clara is now also the home of the San Francisco 49ers football team, who moved its headquarters to the city’s Levi’s Stadium in 2014. The stadium was the location for Super Bowl 50 between the Panthers and Broncos in 2015.
