General Information
Found all over town, a multitude of different kinds of natural mineral spring waters have made Saratoga Springs a very popular destination. Since the early 19th century, resorts and European-style spas have sprung up to provide visitors with the luxury of the various springs’ healing powers and by 1870, it was where the who’s-who of American society went for a good soak.
The gambling industry piggy-backed the resort and spa industry which helped to create a strong economy based on tourism. Horse-racing was big before the 1940s, but unfortunately, the tourism industry hit hard times with severe travel restrictions imposed during World War 2. Since then, this hot spot witnessed a revival in 1970 with a renovated racetrack and the implementation of an exclusive 28-day racing season.
The small town of 26,711 people welcome visitors year-round to share in summer and winter activities as well as refilling personal water bottles. A word of warning, not all springs taste or smell the same!
