General Information

In 1855, the remote Farmers’ High School of Pennsylvania was located on 200 acres and was five miles from the nearest town. Parents liked that their children could focus on their academic as well as agrarian studies away from the “evil influences” of their hometowns. Things have sure changed since then; a robust town grew up around the Farmer’s High School and it evolved into Pennsylvania State University. The town is called State College, despite a referendum in 1053 to change it.

Also known as ‘Happy Valley’ and ‘Lion Country,’ College State is one of the densest cities in the United States. With a population of 42,430 sharing 4.5 square miles (nearly 9,500 people per square mile), shopping and residing come together in many mixed-use high-rise buildings.

With so many sports games to attend, dress for the humid continental weather. Average summer temperatures are typically in the 80’s but can reach high 90’s. Winter temperatures average in the 20’s but have been known to go as low minus 20.
