The Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pilar (Nuestra Senora Basilica del Pilar) is one of the largest churches in the world is known its shrine to the Virgin Mary as well as for its Baroque style and colourful cupolas. A curiosity inside the church is a memorial showing two bombs, which were dropped on the church during the Spanish Civil War but inexplicably did not explode. The Plaza del Pilar sits in front of the cathedral is a spacious square with sculptures, fountains, small restaurants and cafés. Get a beautiful view of the Ebro and its historic stone bridges at Zaragoza’s Linear Park. Run, walk or cycle around the water’s edge and enjoy the sights and sounds. A popular destination for families, Monasterio de Piedra Park, which is located 70 miles southwest of Zaragoza, includes an historic 1194 monastery located in an old castle next to the Piedra River. The park also includes gorgeous waterfalls and gardens, as well as a hotel. Zaragoza boasts some of the finest food in Spain. Wander the Central Market (Mercado Central), located in an old brick building on Avenida Cesar Augusto, for the freshest seafood, meat and produce.
