During the fall of 1842, a fellow by the name of John Sutter leased land—what is now called Marysville—to Theodore Cordua, who used the land to raise livestock. Over time, that plot of land evolved into Marysville, which was one of the most prosperous towns during the iconic Gold Rush era, becoming one of the largest cities in California during this time. Today, Marysville hasn’t grown much in size since then, but it still remains a popular place to visit.
