An historic city that was once part of the District of Columbia before the retrocession, which returned it to Virginia in 1846, Alexandria features many 18th and 19th century preserved buildings as well as brick sidewalks. The city is composed of seven neighborhoods, each with its own distinctive quality and attractions. They include:

Things to Do in Alexandria
It would be remiss to visit Alexandria without seeing some of its historic sites and attractions. Located in the country just outside of Alexandria is the Mount Vernon Estate, the family plantation of George Washington, where the first US president lived with his wife Martha.
