About Toledo

Toledo, Ohio blends Midwest charm with an industrial spirit, where creativity sparks along the waterfront of the Maumee River. From world-class glass art at the Toledo Museum of Art to vibrant local eats in the Warehouse District, the city surprises with its cultural depth and grit. Whether you're catching a Mud Hens game or exploring the Toledo Zoo, this underrated gem delivers authentic, down-to-earth adventures.

01

General Information

Like many Great Lakes cities, Toledo experiences a humid climate with four distinct seasons. July temperatures average 73 degrees Fahrenheit. However, some days can spike as high as 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Winters can be cold and snowy, but clear skies prevail for January and February. Late spring to early autumn is the best time to visit.

In 1615, French-Canadian explorer Etienne Brule was the first European to see the area. A fur-trade post was established, eventually becoming the city of Toledo in 1833. Although named after Toledo, Spain, historians still disagree why the name was chosen.

Toledo is the hometown of actor Jamie Farr, and the hometown of Klinger, the character he played on 8 seasons of M*A*S*H*. Farr and the series writers would frequently add Toledo references to the episodes, introducing America to the Toledo Mudhens baseball team and Tony Packo’s Hungarian Hot Dogs.

Things to Do in Toledo

Toledo’s factory town belief is essentially “work hard so you can play more.” They have worked hard to build up Toledo’s attractions. Whether you love outdoor activities, restaurants and shopping, cultural events or family fun, Toledo has something for you. Here are some suggestions for visitors who charter flights to Toledo:

Toledo Zoo and Aquarium. One of the most complete zoos in North America, the Toledo Zoo is home to over 4,700 species. This gorgeous 62-acre site hosts regular events, tours, and workshops to engage animal lovers of all ages. You can get your adrenaline kicks on the Adventure Zip-Line, or just relax while watching the majestic sea turtles and stingrays glide by in the Aquarium.

Explore the legacy of the Glass City. One of the top attractions is the Libbey Glass Factory Outlet, featuring 16,000 square feet of glass dinnerware, giftware, and other dazzling glass products. Also, be sure to visit the Glass Pavilion at the Toledo Museum of Art. This world-class facility displays over 5,000 works of art, from ancient to modern, and features daily glass-blowing demonstrations.

Relive history at Fort Meigs. Fort Meigs is a War of 1812 battlefield located in Perrysburg, Ohio, about 12 miles south of Toledo. The reconstructed fort and museum bring history alive for guests of all ages. Along with tours and interactive displays, a number of re-enactments and special events take place throughout the summer.
