Local Airport Advisory is a terminal service provided by private jet airports that operate without a control tower or when the control tower is closed. Ground-to-air communication is used on a discrete frequency to advise aircraft personnel of various weather conditions.

Advising via Advisories

Typically, local airport advisories occur at smaller airstrips with part time control towers. Since flights come in at all hours of the day, it’s important to have an advisory system that runs when the towers are closed. Some of the weather conditions more commonly reported include:

• Freezing rain
• Large hail
• Strong surface winds
• Heavy snowfall

These advisories provide the aircraft crew with important information needed before landing. Having access to these advisories allows the crew to prepare for inclement weather conditions in advance and provide a smoother landing.
