Saab 340A Charter Plane Information

The Saab 340A charter jet is a pressurized twin-turboprop that offers tremendous value as a group charter plane. This premier turboprop can easily accommodate 30 passengers, which is not surprising considering the 34-foot-length of the cabin. This turboprop, which is seven feet wide and offers six feet of standing room, can actually accommodate as many as 36 passengers in a higher-density configuration. Additional features on this charter business aircraft include a:

  • Full aft baggage compartment, perfect for lots of luggage
  • Forward lavatory
  • Forward galley
  • State-of-the-art cockpit

The Saab340A soars at a cruising speed of 311 mph and has a range of 785 nautical miles with maximum payload. It has a maximum service ceiling of 25,000 feet. This makes it ideal for chartering a vacation from Miami to the Bahamas on a charter flight. A pair of General-Electric CT7-5A2 turboprop engines power the Saab 340A. Each power plant provides 1,735 shaft-horsepower to a four-blade Dowty Rotol propeller. Originally known as the SF340, creating the Saab 340 was a joint effort between Swedish-based Saab and American-based Fairchild. Starting in the early 1980s, the two companies collaborated on an aircraft that would compete in the 30-to-40-passenger regional airline market. The Saab 340A gained American and European certification in 1984, however, a year later, Fairchild chose halted its aircraft manufacturing and left the partnership. Shortly after, Saab shifted the aircraft’s designation to the 340A.

A Proven Performer

Two of the strongpoints of the Saab 340A are its safety and reliability. Built to commercial airline standards, it provides a wide margin of safety as a charter aircraft. If you need more convincing, consider these operational highlights:

  • 25-year track record
  • More than 13 million flight hours
  • 99 per cent dispatch reliability

Furthermore, of the nearly 460 Saab 340s built between 1984 and 1999, more than 400 of them remain in service today. Another key advantage of this aircraft is its efficiency. It’s fast enough to complete short-to-medium-range charter flight missions quickly, while consuming far less fuel than turbofan-powered aircraft with similar carrying capacities. The Saab 340 is also adept at accessing challenging airports—such as ones with unpaved runways—and operating in cold weather. For corporate travel, the Saab 340A serves well in the role of a shuttle operator:

  • Transport staff between production plants and offices
  • Offer staff a safe, secure environment so they can work inflight
  • Same-day return flights so you can enjoy dinner with the family
