Of course, the mid-nineteenth century Gold Rush era brought new commerce to the area, only to dry up once the gold boom ended. Visitors can still experience the overlapping Tlingit native culture, Russian influences and Gold Rush-era legends. 

The airport itself features a 6,000 foot runway, which can handle aircraft up to a midsize charter jet.
