Though the name Battle Creek evokes images of combat, the area itself has grown into a peaceful, industrious city. The township was founded where the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek rivers meet, a natural transportation hub.
One cannot fly into the W.K. Kellogg airport without thinking of Battle Creek’s most famous entrepreneur, cereal manufacturer, William Keith Kellogg. Kellogg, with his brother Dr. John Kellogg, saw the beautiful area as a perfect place to build a health resort in 1866.
It was by lucky accident that William splashed the resort’s breakfast corn-meal onto a hot surface. The first corn flake was created. William tasted it, saw the potential, and eventually left the health resort business to create what is now a multinational cereal and foods company. Competitor C.W. Post soon built his Grape Nuts facility nearby, thus earning Battle Creek the nickname of “Cereal City.”
As a jet charter airport in Battle Creek, Michigan, the WK Kellogg airport is a gateway to a diverse manufacturing and agricultural city. Only 60% of the city’s land is developed, with the rest being mainly agricultural. By area, Battle Creek is Michigan’s third largest city. However, by population, this cozy, tight-knit community is ranked as 32nd in the state.
The airport itself hosts two FBO’s to handle private jet travel. There are three runways, ranging from 4,100 to 10,000 feet, which can easily accommodate almost every executive charter jet in the Stratos network.
