During the Vietnam War, Fort Hood also became a hotspot of anti-war activity. Despite being the third-largest army base, it is the largest armored post with an active-duty military. 

Situated just outside Fort Hood is the military boom town of Killeen. With a population of 127,000, Killeen’s livelihood is entirely dependent on Fort Hood and the soldiers and families who call the military base home.
