Positioning Time

Jet Charter Citation Excel

Positioning time refers to the amount of time it takes for an aircraft, like a group jet charter, to position itself from its current position to its departure point on the runway. This is similar to repositioning time or taxi time.

However, unlike repositioning and taxi time, the beginning point can be anywhere in an airport as long as the aircraft is heading towards is departure position. This time can vary from a few to several minutes.

Factors Effecting Positioning Time

The amount of time it takes for a group jet charter or other aircraft to position itself on the runway for departure can vary. A few of these factors include:

  • Delays by Air Traffic Control (typically holding delays)
  • High volumes of traffic on the runway or in the sky
  • Multiple incoming aircraft

Private Airports vs. Commercial Airports

In an effort to avoid positioning time delays, many private charters will try to avoid using commercial airports. Instead, private airports are preferred. This is because nearly two or three charter jets can take off or land in the same amount of time it takes one commercial airliner to do the same. Private airports are typically less busy as well, and this also helps to speed up the frequency or take offs and landings.
